Applying for recognition based on a diploma obtained outside the European Economic Area (EEA)
Did you obtain your diploma outside the EEA and want to practice your healthcare profession in Belgium? Then you must first have your basic diploma recognized as equivalent. After that, you can either apply for recognition from the Flemish government or directly request a visa from the federal government.
Are you an EU national or equivalent, and has your diploma been recognized as equivalent (academic equivalence) in one of the EEA countries, and have you already worked in that EEA country for at least three years? If so, you should apply for recognition of your profession with the Department of Care. If not, you must follow the procedure below to apply for recognition with the Department of Care.
What steps do I need to take to be recognized for my professional title?
Step 1: Apply for the recognition of your diploma’s equivalence
To practice your healthcare profession in Belgium, your diploma must first be recognized by NARIC, the National Academic Recognition Information Centre.

Step 2: Apply for your professional recognition and/or visa
Afterwards, with your NARIC equivalence certificate, you can apply for professional recognition with the Department of Care for the following professional titles and/or specialisations:
